Japan Snow Photography

Japan Snow Photography, led by Ryan Butterfield, is recognized for its flexible approach and photographer-friendly image delivery. Clients receive both professionally edited full-resolution images and the original RAW files, giving them the freedom to revisit and refine their photos in the future.

Operating throughout the Nagano region—including Hakuba, Myoko, Nozawa Onsen, and Madarao—Japan Snow Photography is an excellent choice for visitors planning a multi-resort ski trip. Family portrait sessions start from approximately ¥40,000, while half-day resort groomer photography is around ¥60,000 and full-day action and powder sessions are available from ¥80,000.

In addition to ski and snowboard photography, Ryan also offers engagement shoots, family portraits, and lifestyle sessions, with a relaxed, friendly style that helps guests feel comfortable in front of the camera.
 

Felix Pope 

Felix Pope is a Canadian originally from St. John’s, Newfoundland. He moved to Japan in 2015 on what was meant to be a short working holiday, which turned into a permanent move after falling in love—both with Hakuba and his wife.

He has been passionate about photography for most of his life, including early experience volunteering on an expedition to Antarctica photographing wildlife in one of the world’s most remote environments.

Today, Felix works as a professional adventure sports cameraman based in Hakuba, specializing in skiing, snowboarding, and mountain-based content creation, along with backcountry and off-piste photo shoots in Hakuba’s freeride terrain. These sessions capture clients in some of his favorite hidden mountain locations, with half-day shoots at ¥55,000 and full-day shoots at ¥80,000, including professional shooting, editing, and same-day delivery of final images.

He also offers family-friendly ski photography as well as green season photography during the warmer months. Full-day and half-day shoots are available starting from ¥45,000 for a half-day and ¥70,000 for a full-day, with all editing included.
