Every Blackwood chalet includes a dedicated ski storage area or private drying room where you can safely store your skis, snowboards, boots and outerwear.

These spaces are designed to keep your equipment dry, warm and ready for another day on the mountain.

Where can we hire skis or snowboards?

Hakuba has several excellent rental providers, but our top recommendations are Central Snowsports and Rhythm Japan.

Central Snowsports is conveniently located close to our properties in  Wadano, making equipment collection quick and easy.

Rhythm Japan, located in Wadano, offers an extensive range of premium equipment in a modern retail space, complete with a popular café—well worth a visit even if you're simply browsing.

Both companies provide high-quality rental equipment and excellent customer service.

Which ski school do you recommend?
Please see the EXPERIENCE section of our website for suggested Ski Schools.
I'd like to explore the backcountry. What's the safest way?

If you're planning to venture into Hakuba's renowned backcountry terrain, hiring a professional guide is a must-have.

Hakuba backcountry can be dangerous. A qualified guide not only knows the best snow conditions and local routes but is also trained in avalanche safety, emergency response and mountain navigation. They can also assist with transport, equipment hire and planning a tour suited to your experience level.

Our recommended guiding companies are Northern Heights Guiding and Evergreen Backcountry Guiding; both offer expertly led tours for a wide range of local knowledge and experience.

How can we find restaurants in Hakuba?

Hakuba offers an outstanding selection of restaurants, cafés and bars, ranging from casual eateries to fine dining experiences.

For local recommendations, please check the Hakuba Dining Guide, or ask our staff to suggest some options which features some of the area's best dining options.

Hakuba's most popular restaurants often book out several days in advance, particularly during peak holiday periods. We strongly recommend making reservations as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

If you need assistance securing a booking, our team will be happy to help.

Is there a hospital or clinic nearby with English-speaking staff?

For general medical concerns, the closest clinic is Hakuba International Clinic or Shintani Clinic, both located approximately five to ten minutes by car from your accommodation.

These clinics can treat most common illnesses and minor injuries and will refer patients to specialists if additional care is required. While English is spoken to a limited extent, our Guest Services team can assist with translation if needed.

For more serious injuries or medical emergencies, Omachi Hospital is located approximately 30 minutes away by car. As the area's major hospital, it offers a wider range of medical specialists, equipment and emergency services. Although English-speaking staff are limited, the hospital is fully equipped to provide emergency treatment.

Can you recommend a physiotherapist?

For ski- and snowboard-related injuries, recovery treatments or preventative care, we recommend Hakuba Physio.

Their experienced team consists of English-speaking physiotherapists who understand the physical demands of winter sports. Whether you're dealing with muscle soreness, joint pain or a more significant injury, they provide expert assessment and treatment to help get you back on the slopes safely.

What are some popular non-ski activities?

If you're taking a day off the slopes, there are plenty of opportunities to experience the culture and natural beauty of the Nagano region.

Popular day trips include:

  • Snow Monkey Park Tour
  • Zenkoji Temple Nagano
  • Matsumoto Castle
  • Itoigawa Fish Market

If you'd like recommendations based on your interests, our Guest Services team is happy to help you plan your day.
